As part of theRams.com's preview coverage leading into this year's draft, we'll be taking a look at each position on the team's roster.

We continue with the running back position.

It hasn't been widely identified by analysts as a position of need for the Rams, but here's why they make consider targeting it in the draft

Running back projections are not as common as inside linebacker, cornerback, wide receiver or tight end, as the Rams still haveBlake Corumon his rookie contract for another three seasons. AlthoughKyren Williamsis entering the final year of his rookie contract, he and the Rams have had discussions about a possible contract extension this offseason.

Add inRonnie RiversandCody Schrader, and the Rams currently carry four running backs on their roster.

On the flip side, McVay spoke in January about his vision for a more versatile offense in 2025, regardless of the health of the roster, specifically noted what the Buccaneers evolved into throughout the 2024 season under then-offensive coordinator Liam Coen. Would achieving greater versatility mean exploring what is widely regarded as a deep 2025 running back class?

Current running backs on the roster

Williams, Corum, Rivers and Schrader.

Projected names

Again, because this isn't a widely- dentified position of need, some mock drafts have not featured Los Angeles taking a running back at any of their pick selections. For example, The Athletic's Dane Brugler doesn't have the Rams selecting a single one in hisfull seven-round mock draft.Neither does Bleacher Report's scouting departmentin its recent three-round mock,or ESPN's Mel Kiper Jr. and Field Yatesin theirs.

CBS Sports'latest seven-round mockhas the Rams taking Texas' Jaydon Blue 190th overall for the sixth round.

Los Angeles' 2025 Draft Picks:

  • Round 1: No. 26 overall
  • Round 3: No. 90 overall
  • Round 3: No. 101 overall (special compensatory)
  • Round 4: No. 127 overall
  • Round 6: No. 190 overall (from Atlanta Falcons)
  • Round 6: No. 195 overall (from Pittsburgh Steelers)
  • Round 6: No. 201 overall
  • Round 6: No. 202 overall (from Chicago Bears in Jonah Jackson trade)
